What's going down now can't be stopped until the midterms at the earliest. While criticizing the "mainstream" press for their treatment of Trump leading up to the election is fair, I can't help but think that they didn't have a lot to do with Trump's winning. The overwhelming majority of Trump's voter don't read them (in my opinion). The question that perplexes me is how to reach those voters of the "What's the Matter with Kansas" variety who elect him and his MAGA congressional supporters. Pretty tough to persuade anyone who isn't paying any attention to you. Gotta sit down with Joe Rogan? Maybe so but that's probably not enough. We're not talking complex political rhetoric here. More like, hey, did you know bird flu, not the administration, is causing the price of eggs?
I think the press had a real impact, through normalizing Trump and the relentless false equivalencies between the insane right and what reporters and columnists laughably call the left. As you know i don't truck with Democrats but i do řecognize the discouraging effect of constantly seeing one's favored flavor, or habitual flavor, unfavorably compared to philosophical cannibals.
I'm pretty sure the NYT, Washington Post, subscriptions in the swing states are really tiny and I really doubt those folks go to the library to read them for free. I think the stay at homes this time were people upset with Gaza, immigration, and their personal economy (regardless of what Krugman tried to tell them).
I was talking about 2016, but some of the same factors were in play this time too. It's not just the newspapers, but local and national teevee as well, where a lot of people still get their news. They all had a really strong both-sides game going. But yeah, the gaslighting on Gaza and other stuff was important this time 'round.
Hesgeth is going to be approved. Just one more reason why we should give up all hope, drink more whiskey, and consider the American experiment to be an abject failure.

Bird flu is caused by the deep state.

Just because he's a drunken imbecile is no reason to disrespect his office. So please call him secretary Whisky Pete.
